Stephanie was born and raised in a very musically inclined family in Boston. At the age of 6 Stephanie was introduced to music through her elder family members and attending church regularly. Her Father the late Charles W. Hicks was a crooner who sang and performed in local clubs and practiced in the living room. Stephanie was supposed to follow pursuit as well as her siblings and learn to read music and sing, in which she did. She studied piano, violin and had a vocal coach at the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts, until her family moved next door to a local DJ named DJ Scratch who introduced her to the DJ fundamentals and gave her the name DJ Def Stef in 1982.
She has had the opportunity to Deejay at a host of Night Clubs, Function Halls, Private Venues such as The Carver Den, Rattlesnake, Brandy Pete’s, Dublin House, Florian Hall, Club 58, The China Pearl, Knights of Columbus, and Slades Bar and Grill to name a few.
She has had the opportunity to DJ alongside DJ Spinderella of the group Salt N Pepa, as well as a host of Deejays State to State. She has spun at all kinds of events like the Polo and Timbs, Ladies Night out, Baby Showers, Weddings, Showcase Events, Car Shows and Fashion shows.
Dj Def Stef is the First Lady of Fleetdjs Massachusetts, Sound Wave Assassins and Tittle Team DJs,
She is an internet radio Dj for The House of Inspiration/hoinetwork.com she held radio shows on Vusiclive and Quicktime radio.
